The Center for Academic Excellence embodies UNCP’s commitment to your academic success. That means that, together, our programs, offices, and resources form a comprehensive academic support network that can assist you as you find your ideal path and pursue your degree. Whether guiding you through your academic transition, helping you clarify career goals and explore majors, or providing tutoring that helps you meet the challenges of college study, the CAE is an important part of your experience at UNCP.

The H.A.W.K. (Honing Academics With Knowledge) Alert Program is designed to identify those students who are having academic difficulty at any point in their academic career. By identifying these students, the Center for Academic Excellence can address their needs, thereby increasing the likelihood of their success.

Academic Resource Mentors (ARMS) are available to guide you through the semester to improve your GPA. You can meet with them weekly or monthly. They also hold monthly workshops on topics such as test taking and study skills.

The Tutoring Program provides free tutoring services to all UNCP students who need further assistance in currently registered courses. We offer tutoring in all general education courses, as well as many upper-level courses.

Supplemental Instruction is offered to all students who want to improve their understanding of course material and their grades in SI-supported courses. The sessions provide students with a chance to get together and organize material, compare notes, discuss important concepts, and develop strategies in preparation for exams. To take advantage of SI, make sure you enroll in courses labeled “Supplemental Instruction.”

The Resource Learning Lab provides you with an opportunity to improve your academic readiness by utilizing computer software that improves academic skills. The Resource Learning Lab offers computer-based, self-paced tutoring in basic writing skills, from composing sentences, paragraphs, and essays, to addressing common writing problems, basic reading comprehension, and word problem dissection.
