letter to UNDERGRADUATE CANDIDATES (from office of registrar)

Dear Prospective Graduate:

Congratulations on your upcoming graduation! To make your commencement ceremony an impressive and unforgettable event, you are asked to very carefully read all of the following information.

The Winter Commencement will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 7, 2013 in the main gym of the Jones Athletic Center on the UNCP campus.

Promptly at 8:30 a.m. candidates for the Bachelor’s degree should report to the Auxiliary Gym located in the Jones Athletic Center to line up by college or school, then by degree. PLEASE BE ON TIME, AS ALL CANDIDATES MUST LINE UP ACCORDINGLY. The doors of the Jones Athletic Center will open for guests at 9:00 a.m. on graduation day.  All guests should be seated no later than 9:45 a.m.

During the ceremony, University marshals will lead the candidates to the stage where the names will be called, a degree cover given, and congratulations offered by Chancellor Kyle Carter.  Candidates will be asked to stand while the Chancellor confers the degrees. Diplomas will be mailed in February 2014 after the fall semester grades are processed and diplomas have been printed.

Honor cords for Summa Cum Laude, Magna Cum Laude, Cum Laude and honor sashes for Honors College graduates will be distributed to the Bachelor’s degree candidates prior to the line-up in the Auxiliary Gym on December 7th. Those undergraduate students tentatively receiving any of these honors will be contacted by mail before graduation. Additionally, Americana cords will be available for our military members and veterans with proof of service.

All candidates for degrees are encouraged to participate in the commencement ceremony. However, if you choose, you may request permission to graduate in Absentia.  Enclosed is the absentia card that must be submitted along with a check for $3.50 for postage no later than October 31, 2013 to Ms. Darleen Lowry, Registrar’s Office, UNC Pembroke, Post Office Box 1510, Pembroke, NC 28372.

Five (5) admission tickets for each candidate have been reserved for the Winter Commencement.  Tickets, as well as caps and gowns, will be distributed at Grad Finale, October 16th from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m. and October 17th from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. in the University Center Annex.  If you fail to pick up tickets on one of these dates, they will be available in the Registrar’s Office (except for November 28th and 29th which are holidays).  Tickets must be picked up by Friday, November 22, 2013.  If any extra tickets are available after this date they will be distributed on a first-come first-serve basis in the Registrar’s Office on Friday, December 6th starting at 8:00 a.m. (only two [2] extra tickets per candidate).

Candidates who do not attend the Grad Finale may pick up their caps and gowns at the UNCP Bookstore beginning Wednesday, November 6th through Saturday, December 7th. Caps and Gowns will not be available after graduation. The UNCP Bookstore will be open Monday through Thursday, 7:45 a.m. until 6:00 p.m., Friday from 7:45 a.m. until 4:00 p.m., and Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. Generic graduation announcements and graduation accessories will be available after Grad Finale.
