New Year, New Location

Shortly before the new semester started, most of theDoIT offices relocated to Carter Hall, a part of the Odom Children’s Home. In an effort to make additional office space for new faculty, the university leased Carter Hall from Odom Children’s Home this past summer and decided to move some DoIT staffing from Oxendine Science, D.F. Lowry and the Mimosa mobile unit. Moving DoIT to Carter not only vacates additional office spaces
for faculty, but also assists in centralizing and streamlining DoIT operations.

Some DoIT staff stays in the same locations. The Help Desk remains in D.F. Lowry due to its centralized campus location. The Help Desk staff continues providing centralized “one-stop” services to students, faculty and staff from D.F. Lowry. The data center, along with operations staff, stays in Oxendine Science, and staff in the Mary Livermore Library remains in the same location. The move does not impact any technology classrooms or computer labs, as all remain in the same locations. One change impacting faculty
and staff is the location of the OCR/OMR scanner to scan “bubble sheets” (student evaluation forms or tests). That scanner is now available in the Help Desk area in D.F. Lowry.

Until 2007, DoIT staff was all housed in Oxendine Science and the library. Due to recent growth of the university, however, it became necessary to separate technology staff into numerous locations. The Office of the CIO was housed in Mimosa since February. The Help Desk and most of Client Services moved to D.F. Lowry, while IT Applications Development and Support and the Network and System Administration departments remained in Oxendine Science.

For more information about the DoIT relocation, please contact the Help Desk at or 521-6260.
