Webmail is working well,
now clearing backlog


Current e-mail continues to flow. Webmail is fully functional and Exchange is working for faculty and staff. An issue remains with BraveMail and the timeliness of e-mail delivery. Microsoft, the provider of BraveMail services, is limiting the flow of messages from UNCP to BraveMail; and even though they have been aware of the blockage issue since Monday, they have been unable to rectify the situation. We are escalating this issue with Microsoft to higher levels as it is impacting our ability to clear the backlog of e-mails. It appears we are keeping up with current delivery to Exchange and Webmail but are seeing delays to BraveMail.

The backlog of e-mails is still large, but we cannot clear this backlog until the Microsoft issue is resolved as we have pushed all the e-mail we can into the pipeline. We were told as of 2 p.m. on Friday that Microsoft will give us an update on the issue at 6 p.m.. We will continue to push the clearing of the backlogged e-mails over the weekend. If Microsoft clears their network issue we can quickly clear this backlog bringing us fully back to normal operation. The full migration of individuals to the new Exchange system continues at a full clip.

One issue for faculty is the new messaging that Exchange is sharing when a message is bounced from a student account. It is rather misleading as the message gives you an update on each account and one has to look through the message to find the student account(s) that has (have) issues. Our DoIT Help Desk is open Saturday from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. to assist with account or e-mail delivery issues and Sunday from 2 until 11 p.m. That number is 521-6260.

Please remember our Town Hall meetings on Monday at 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. and at 3 p.m. Tuesday in Moore Hall. We’ll share information and dialog on all that has happened and together, we’ll talk about moving forward.
