UNCP Adopts Microsoft IT Academy

Microsoft IT Academy LogoThe Microsoft IT Academy is an application and services suite that can help faculty, staff and students achieve their desired level of expertise with technology.  It provides programs that offer a complete package of courseware by subject, along with e-learning courses designed to meet the technology learning needs of UNCP users.  The Microsoft IT Academy Program provides valuable tools and resources all at special pricing for UNCP.  Faculty interested in using the Academy as part of their coursework can tailor Microsoft Official Academic Courses and Official Course textbooks to meet the instructional needs of each student.

DoIT’s involvement with this program also enables academic pricing on select Microsoft Certification Exams.  This academic pricing can save considerable sums to assist students desiring to earn various Microsoft Certifications, which are designed to validate their technology skills and help them compete in today's workforce.  As a result of this relationship, UNCP may request selected Microsoft software lab licenses for classroom use to provide students with hands-on technology learning.  Resources include a one-year subscription to MSDN Academic Alliance (MSDN AA) and one Microsoft Certified Trainer (MCT) Membership for qualified instructors.

Microsoft’s IT Academy Program web site provides UNCP access to view and modify our membership details, and manage the Learning Management System access codes for use of the learning resources. This web site also provides marketing resources to increase UNCP’s visibility as a location for top-quality education on Microsoft technologies.

Strategic Planning and Budget Director Maureen Windmeyer leads this initiative for DoIT and anticipates the adoption of the IT Academy suite of software and services will create multiple opportunities for UNCP.  At a recent UNCP regional listening tour stop, one local school administrator talked about the Academy Program, which was recently adopted throughout the state by K-12 education.  He was quite pleased to learn these learning opportunities were available at UNCP. UNCP’s IT Academy offers an opportunity to jump-start local school system’s use as current teachers can engage these materials early, before implementation deadlines become an issue.
