Enter a Grade

There are several ways in which grades can be entered into the Grade Center: automatically, by uploading from an external source, and manually. When Gradable Items (online tests, exams, and surveys, etc.) are created and taken, the scores are automatically entered into a corresponding Grade Column in the Grade Center.

Grades from an external source can be uploaded to the Grade Center if they are in an approved format (Comma-delimited file-type, excel spreadsheet, etc). Grades can also be manually entered into the Grade Center.



Download from the Grade Center

To download either the full or partial Grade Center, first make sure you are in the course you would like to work in and that you have the edit mode set to ON, next in the Evaluation section of the Control Panel, select Grade Center.

Once in the Grade Center, mouse over the Work Offline button in the Action Bar and select Download from the Action Link (drop-down) menu. On the Download Grades page, select Data to Download (Full Grade Center, Selected Grading Period, Selected Column, or User Information Only). Next, choose which format you would like to download to (tab delimited is the default and is recommended). When you select a download location, please be sure that it is somewhere you will easily find again. Last, select Submit to begin the download process. To end, download the data file to your content collection or computer by selecting Download.

Once you have downloaded the Grade Center (either the full or partial version) onto your computer, open the data file in Excel and enter the grades in either an already created and corresponding column or create a new column (please, do not make any unnecessary changes to surrounding columns) to enter these grades. If you create a column in the data file, it will be added to the Grade Center upon upload as a text column with points possible equaling zero (0). You can convert the added column from text to other column types and add points possible by modifying the column after the upload. When you save your data file, make sure the file-type is as it should be (either tab-delimited .txt or comma delimited .csv).

 

Upload to the Grade Center

To upload either the full or partial Grade Center, first make sure you are in the course you would like to work in and that you have the edit mode set to ON, next in the Evaluation section of the Control Panel, select Grade Center.

Once in the Grade Center, mouse over the Work Offload button in the Action Bar and select Upload from the Action Link (drop-down) menu. On the Upload Grades page, browse for the data file either on a local drive on your computer or on the Content Collection. Once you have found the data file you would like to upload, you will need to select the Delimiter Type (Comma, Tab or Auto). Auto will attempt to automatically detect the delimiter used in the selected data file. In the last step, select Submit to upload the selected file.

Review the list of data from the file to be uploaded (you may uncheck any data to be excluded from the upload to only upload the desired columns of data from the file) as well as the Data Preview Column to ensure the correct data is being uploaded and then select Submit to confirm and upload the data file.

Any file uploaded that contains Incomplete for a grade entry will be set to null, with no grade or text displayed. Any file uploaded that contains Complete for a grade entry will be set to an Override Grade of the Maximum points possible (100% for a Grade Item) in a column that has the Primary Display of complete/Incomplete. Any file uploaded that contains a numeric entry will be a numeric entry.

 

Manually Enter Grades

Grades can be entered in any Grade Center cell in the Grade Center.

To manually enter a grade, first make sure you are in the course you would like to work in and that you have the edit mode set to ON, next in the Evaluation section of the Control Panel, select Grade Center.

Once in the Grade Center, move the cursor over the desired cell and click once, type the value that you wish, and then press enter, otherwise if you attempt to exit the entry cell or Grade Center, a dialog box will appear asking if you would like to save the grade entry. If so, in the dialog box, select OK to save the grade.
Assessments that are added to the content of a Course and are scored online, automatically record the grade for that assessment in the corresponding Grade Center column. Grades that are automatically scored can be modified manually.

 

Entering an Attempt Grade

To enter an Attempt Grade, first make sure you are in the course you would like to work in and that you have the edit mode set to ON, next in the Evaluation section of the Control Panel, select Grade Center.

Once in the Grade Center mouse over an entered grade, select the Action Link for that cell, choose View Grade Details, and then select Edit Attempt or Edit Override in the Grade Details page. Next, in the Current Grade Value text box, enter a score. Add any Feedback to User or Instructor Notes you wish and select Save. Last, select OK to return to the Grade Center page.
