Grading Period

Grading Periods are used to sort Grade Center Columns into sections based on due date. These sections help manage the Grade Center by associating Grade Columns together so that viewing and reporting can be done based on a Grading Period instead of the entire Grade Center.

Grading Periods can be used to:

  • View the performance of students in a certain Grading Period.
  • Create a Report that displays performance for that Grading Period. This can be used to generate a printable mid-term performance report.
  • Create a grade calculation, such as a Weighted Grade or Total Points Grade. It can also calculate an average grade for all columns and create an Average Grade Column. Columns associated with the Grading Period are automatically included in the average calculation.

Warning: Grade Center Columns cannot be associated with more than one Grading Period. A newly created Grading Period with the same or an overlapping date range will override the settings of an existing Grading Period. All items associated with the existing Grading Period will become associated with the new one.

Create a Grading Period

  1. Click Manage in the Action Bar and select Grading Periods.
  2. Click Create Grading Period and type a Name and Description.
  3. Choose the Grading Period Dates.
  4. Click Associate Columns and Submit.

Manually Associate Columns to a Grading Period

Columns can be manually associated with a Grading Period using the following methods:

  1. Drag and drop Columns into Grading Periods on the Organize Grade Center Page. This is the most efficient way to move multiple Columns.
  2. Select a Grading Period when creating the Column.
  3. Select Edit Column for an existing Column and select a Grading Period.

To remove a Grading Period association from a Column, select None from the Grading Period list.

View the Grade Center Using Grading Periods

Grade Center Views exist for each Grading Period. Columns associated with the Grading Period will display using this view. Grading Periods can used as criteria to create Smart Views, a focused look at the Grade Center.

Edit a Grade Period

Once you are in the Grade Center, mouse over Manage in the Action Bar of the Grade Center, select Grading Periods from the Action Link (drop-down) menu. When the window pops up, find the Grading Period you would like to make changes to and select Edit from its drop-down menu. After making the changes you would like, select Submit.

Delete a Grade Period

Once you are in the Grade Center, mouse over Manage in the Action Bar of the Grade Center, select Grading Periods from the Action Link (drop-down) menu. When the window pops up, find the Grading Period you would like to remove. Select Delete.
