DSO ACCOMPLISHMENTS

2002-2003 academic year:

  • Contributed to A Soldiers Wish List.
  • Introduced and met Henry Winkler.
  • Addressed campus building accessibility regulations.
  • Won 3rd place at the UNCP Homecoming parade.

2003-2004 academic year:

  • Participated in A Very Special Arts Festival.
  • Introduced and met Dancing Wheels.
  • Won 1st place at the UNCP Homecoming parade.
  • Held panel discussion on disability misconceptions.
  • Held annual Christmas Party.
  • Hosted face painting table at local fly-in.
  • Participated in annual Pembroke Day.
  • Held 1st annual officers’ retreat.
  • Held 1st annual Awards Banquet.

2004-2005 academic year:

  • Participated in a transition program for incoming freshmen with disabilities.
  • Introduced and met Sean Stephenson.
  • Participated in A Very Special Arts Festival.
  • Participated in a Harmony Walk.
  • Assisted in the River Way Project.
  • Sponsored Will Marfori.
  • Joined the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill local affiliate.
  • Sponsored Ronnie Milsap.
  • Held a trip to the NC state fair.
  • Held 2nd annual Christmas party.
  • Set up an information table during Disability Awareness Month.
  • Sold concessions at GPAC events for fundraising.
  • Won 1st place at the Rowland Christmas parade costume contest.
  • Sponsored and donated money to the March of Dimes ($300).
  • Sponsored several social events both on and off campus.

2005-2006 academic year:

  • Set up a yahoo groups website.

  • Participated in Pembroke Day.
  • Participated in a Harmony Walk.
  • Participated in VSAF.
  • Participated in Open Houses and Orientations.
  • Assisted in a Habitat for Humanity project.
  • Participated in a Parents' Weekend.
  • Continued participation with National Alliance for the Mentally Ill (NAMI).
  • Attended a dinner with the Chancellor to voice concerns.
  • Sold concessions at GPAC events.
  • Sponsored several socials both on and off campus.
  • Attended UNCP interclub meetings.
  • Partnered with the Student Government Association to address concerns on campus.
  • Partnered with DSS to sponsor Movies on Mondays.
  • Sponsored a raffle for a 20 inch TV/DVD/VCR combo.
  • Invited the UNCP Attorney, UNCP Architect, and Vice Chancellor for Business Affairs to a DSO meeting to present information about campus accessibility.
  • Drafted letters to University, DOT and Legislators regarding safety/accessibility concerns on and off campus.
  • Held third annual Christmas party/retreat.
  • Participated in the 2006 UNCP Homecoming Parade and Pep Rally.
  • Sponsored a Disability Awareness table.
  • Invited UCIS staff to a DSO meeting to address campus computer accessibility issues.
  • Invited UNCP's Study Abroad Coordinator to encourage study abroad for students with disabilities.
  • Hosted a bake sale fundraiser for Spring Retreat.
  • Invited SGA President/Vice President candidates to a DSO meeting to discuss accessibility and safety issues in and around campus.
  • Sponsored and donated money to the March of Dimes ($300).
  • Attended an Easter Egg hunt sponsored by the Boys and Girls Club of Pembroke.
  • Held 3rd annual officers' retreat.

2006-2007 academic year:

  • Participated in a transition program for incoming freshmen with disabilities.
  • Established a scholarship committee to develop an application and eligibility requirements for a scholarship for students with disabilities attending UNCP.
  • Participated in Pembroke Day.
  • Partnered with the Student Government Association to establish an adhoc committee within student government to address safety concerns among the disabled community.
  • Sold concessions at GPAC events. Fifty percent (50%) of profits will be used for a scholarship fund.
  • Participated in VSA Festival.
  • Held annual holiday social and retreat.
  • Participated in homecoming activities.
  • Established a scholarship for students with disabilities.
  • Sponsored movie night.
  • Hosted an Easter basket fund raiser.
  • Worked with SGA's Student Issues Committee to address campus concerns.
  • Participated in Taste of Culture.
  • Participated in UNCP's Relay for Life.
  • Held 3rd Awards Banquet.
  • Held 4th annual officers' retreat in Williamsburg, VA.
  • Paticipated in Lumbee Homecoming.

2007-2008 academic year:

  • Participated in a transition program for incoming freshmen with disabilities.
  • Participated in Pembroke Day.
  • Participated in Harmony Walk.
  • Hosted a social for new freshmen with disabilities.
  • Attended UNCP's first home football game as a social event.
  • Participated in UNCP's first football homecoming parade.
  • Participated in Open House.
  • Sold GPAC concessions to raise money for the Braves Disabled Student Endowed Scholarship.
  • Held annual holiday retreat.
  • Sponsored Valentine's Day fundraiser.
  • Participated in Relay for Life.
  • Held fourth annual awards banquet.
  • Paticipated in Lumbee Homecoming.

      

                                   2008-2009 academic year
