energy Management

Facilities Management is keeping with its commitment towards a more sustainable environment by recently hiring a new Director of Sustainability and a new Director of Energy Management.  These two individuals will lead UNCP toward a more sustainable environment and reductions in current energy usage.  Be looking for new energy and sustainability policies and activities on campus in 2014 and beyond.  We will be looking for students, faculty and staff that will work with us to make UNCP an even more GREEN campus.

UNCP Facilities Management engaged in a performance Contract with Siemens Inc. that included four campus buildings.  Oxendine Science Complex, Old Main, Livermore Library and Jones Health & PE Center have all undergone renovations that included energy conservation measures (ECM’s) that included things like lighting upgrades, boiler upgrades, new air handlers, controls upgrades, water upgrades and building envelop improvements.  Siemens has guaranteed the cost savings will cover all project costs.

UNCP is also currently working through a state Investment Grade Audit (IGA) with Johnson Controls to investigate lighting upgrades in many of its campus buildings.  This project is expected to get underway sometime in 2014.  The project will include upgrading interior lighting to Light Emitting Diode (LED) technology.  This is the newest lighting technology on the market today.  Other outdoor lighting has been upgraded over the past year by the UNCP Maintenance Department with LED lights and will continue as funding is available.  Additional energy saving projects will be investigated and evaluated for their return on investment potential as they are identified.

More will follow soon….so stay tuned!
