Curtis' book review published in American Indian Quarterly

Judith Curtis
Judy Curtis

In her American Indian Quarterly journal Fall 2005 review of the University of Illinois Press book "Cultural Politics and the Mass Media: Alaska Native Voices," Dr. Judy Curtis (Mass Communications) points out that native-controlled media can give voice to native values and culture.

In their work, published by the University of Illinois Press, authors Patrick J. Daley and Beverly A. James present a series of five case studies where Alaska Natives have used newspapers, radio, and television mass media to tell their stories. While the authors focus on selected experiences of Alaska Natives from the 1880s through 1990s, their examples illustrate the universal difficulties faced by indigenous peoples.
