"If you’re Brave be Green": Race to Drop Energy Consumption Competition
Housing and Residence Life, Facilities Operations and Siemens Encourages Energy and Water Reduction in Campus Housing

Television MonitorThe Office of Housing and Residence Life in collaboration with Facilities Operations, Siemens and their partners Woodline Solutions will promote the conservation of electricity, natural gas and water throughout all campus residential facilities.  The “Race to Drop” competition will add incentives for students that reside on campus to learn about and practice conservation.  The Office of Housing and Residence Life has six residential student housing communities:  Belk, Cypress, Oak and Pine Halls along with University Courtyard and University Village Apartments.  All six distinct campus housing properties, housing nearly 25 percent of the campus population willparticipate in the competition.

From October 1 – November 1, 2012, Facilities Operations will compare utility and water consumption to a 2011 baseline during the same time frame.  All residential housing community with the highest percentage of energy reduction will be the winners of the competition. Weekly updates will be posted on the active monitor in the Student Center.  Through systematic behavior modification tools, and Eco-leaders who have been identified for each residence hall and apartment complex, students will be encouraged to turn off lights, reduce water consumption and use less hot water.  This kick off for this initiative will launch on September 27, 2012 at 7pm in the Pine-Oak Courtyard.  For more information, visit our website at and click on the Go Green link.
