UNCP places 74 scholar-athletes on honor roll

UNCP placed a record 74 athletes on Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Honor Roll and improved in the Commissioner's Cup standings, according to a news release from Commissioner Marvin Vanover.

Athletic LogoA PBC record of 807 student-athletes are on the 2005 Presidential Honor Roll. The student-athletes had to maintain a 3.0 grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) for the full 2004-05 academic year. UNC Pembroke placed 74 athletes on the list, a school record and the third highest in the conference.

The Braves improved nearly 200 points in this year's Commissioner's Cup standings that rates PBC on athletic accomplishment for the year.

Kennesaw State University (KSU) and the University of North Florida (UNF) each completed their final year in the PBC, as both schools will move up to the NCAA’s Division I. KSU took home the Commissioner's Cup once again with a .791 rating. UNF was second at .720.

UNCP was eighth with a .414 rating, finishing ahead of Lander University and Augusta State and just behind USC Aiken and Georgia State College and University. Until this season, UNCP had never had a rating higher than .276.

On the academic side, UNF led all schools with 130 student-athletes placed on the honor roll. USC Aiken was second with 82, followed by UNCP with 74, Lander 72 and USC Upstate 71.

Below is a complete list of UNCP student-athletes that made the PBC Presidential Honor Roll. Women's soccer led the way with 13 honorees.

Baseball: Jarrod Britt, Sandy Jacobs, Nolan Johnson, Trip Lockhart, Randall Otto and Dale Funderburke;

Men's Basketball: Arne Danielson and Mark Salazar;

Women's Basketball: Julia Ayers, Lindsay Bartholf, Lauren Lingenfelter, Koral Stache, Natasha Stotler, Kristin Vaughan, Mallory Wegmann and Tiffany Wright;

Men's Cross Country/Track: Justin Gordon, Jeriah Griswold, Phillip Harley II, Josh Wooten, Nicholas Cowell, Christopher Harrisand and William McEntire;

Women's Cross Country/Track: Barbara Jacobsen, Chika Okonkwo and Adriana Yanez;

Men's Golf: Thomas Baker, Greg Dobbins, Christopher Helms, Robert McKinney and Lee Nejberger;

Men's Soccer: Dominico Bilotta, Avery Croteau, Sascha Gorres, Thomas Lindal, Graeme Little, Thomas Martin, Arthur Mellors and Michael Zindros;

Women's Soccer: Jacquelyn Bower, Hillary Helms, Dana Henderson, Kelly Jones, Mary Kresse, Tamara Marshburn, Kristen Parker, Abby Pierce, Erin Rowley, Brenna Russick, Katherine Stokes, Simonae Taylor and Amanda Titus;

Softball: Amanda Busch, Katie Linkous, Danielle Peters, Meredith Veglia and Jenny White;

Women's Tennis: Natalie Dies, Abigail French, Shannon Gentry and Erin Saltzman;

Volleyball: Alicia Hill, Natalie Neisborella, Rebekah Neisborella and Kelly Parker; and

Wrestling: Matthew Anglin, James Campbell, Adam Dedmon, Norlan Graves, Bryan Howington, Nathan Mitchell, Lewis Polley, Benjamin Williams and Stephen Witt.
