Sherry Boudrias joins Counseling Center at UNCP

Sherry Boudrias has joined UNC Pembroke’s Center for Counseling and Testing as a staff counselor.

Sherry BoudriasBoudrias has broad experience in a variety of counseling settings and in higher education, said Dr. Monica Osburn, director of counseling and testing at UNCP.

“Sherry is an asset to UNCP not only for her many years of counseling experience, but also because she has been a faculty member in a counseling program,” Dr. Osburn said. “She is familiar with student issues from different perspectives, which is a unique combination.”

Before joining UNCP, Boudrias was campus chair for the College of Health and Human Services at the University of Phoenix’s West Michigan Campus. She directed the Bachelor of Science in Human Services and the B.S. in Criminal Justice programs and was founding director of the Master of Science in counseling program.

As an administrator and faculty member, Boudrias was involved in a wide range of higher education experiences. As a faculty member, she taught in the classroom, on-line, and in hybrid or “flex” classes.

“I enjoy teaching and curriculum development very much,” she said. “The Master of Science in counseling program that I launched served the entire state of Michigan.

“I also developed the internship programs for the University of Phoenix’s Michigan campuses,” she continued. “As faculty member and chair, I was involved in advising, counseling, and mediation.”

For the University of Phoenix, Boudrias instructed courses in criminal law, human services, child and adult development, critical thinking, and cultural diversity among others.
Before that, she worked as a counselor for pregnant and parenting teens with the Salvation Army, a sexual abuse treatment therapist for the YWCA, and a home-based family counselor in private practice. At UNCP, she will serve as a counselor/psychologist providing direct therapeutic and diagnostic counseling and education to students and outreach services for the entire campus.

“I am looking forward to serving the needs of our students and the University community,” Boudrias said. “The center has a wonderful staff that is experienced and dedicated. It will be great to be a part of something like that.”

A Michigan native, Boudrias is working on a doctorate in Educational Leadership with the University of Phoenix. She earned an Associate of Arts degree in psychology from Mid-Michigan Community College, a Bachelor of Science degree in Group Social Science, and a Master of Social Work degree, both from Grand Valley State University.

She is a member of the National Association of Social Workers, the Council on Social Work Education, and the National Organization of Human Services. Boudrias is a licensed master social worker.
