Silver Eagle Development Golf Tournament benefits UNCP football

The first annual Silver Eagle Development UNCP Football Golf Tournament was a huge success.

The tournament, held earlier this summer, raised over $7,300. The funds were used to assist 59 UNCP football players in summer school.

Bob Caton, a Lumberton, N.C., native, former UNCP trustee and president of Silver Eagle Development, LLC, recently delivered a check and sat down with Football Coach Pete Shinnick.

Caton, a member of the UNCP Football Advisory Committee that was responsible for hiring Shinnick in 2006, was pleased to support the tournament.

“This tournament supports a great cause,” Caton said. ”I believe in UNCP, the football program and Coach Shinnick.

“We will continue to move forward with a bigger goal next year, but I was pleased with the first year and the benefits it provided,” said Caton.

Caton, a former member of Florida State University’s football team, has been involved with UNCP for over 30 years. He served two terms on the Board of Trustees and the football fieldhouse bears his name.

“Bob is a great friend of the program in so many ways,” said Shinnick, who is in his third complete season. “His gifts don’t stop with just writing a check. He is very visible at our games and is not only a friend of our program, but is a personal friend who I enjoy spending time with off the field.

“We are truly blessed to have him as such a vital part of our program,” Shinnick concluded.

UNCP opened the 2009 season on August 28 at Fayetteville State University with a 41-34 win in the inaugural Two Rivers Classic. The first home game is September 5 against St. Paul’s University.

The Braves finished 9-1 last year in just their second season of play. For more information about the Silver Eagle Development UNCP Golf Tournament or UNCP Football, please contact the Office of Advancement at 910.521.6252.
