UNCP names 15 Chancellor’s Ambassadors

The University of North Carolina at Pembroke has named its first class of Chancellor’s Ambassadors for 2013.

The ambassadors are outstanding scholars and student leaders who will serve during the year as student representatives at events sponsored by Chancellor Kyle R. and Sarah Carter. The group was selected from a pool of applicants following interviews.

The class includes:

  • Abir Abumohsen of Lumberton, N.C. - a senior art education major, she is a pre-med student and member of the Health Careers Assess Program.
  • Carson Cone of Hillsborough, N.C. – a junior business major, he is a member of the Esther G. Maynor Honors College, the Accounting Student Society and Lambda Sigma Honor Society and he is a University Marshal.
  • Latif Darden of Pembroke, N.C. – A senior political science major, he a senator in the Student Government Association, an academic resource mentor with the Center for Academic Excellence and a Cum Laude graduate (December 2012). He will continue his studies in graduate school.
  • Lindsey Ebaugh of Waynesville, N.C. - a sophomore biology major with a zoology emphasis, she is a member of the Esther G. Maynor Honors College and Lambda Sigma Honor Society. 
  • Indya Evans of Rocky Mount, N.C. - a senior education major with a concentration in biology, she is a member of the Geology Club.
  • Victoria Huggins of Lumberton, N.C. - a sophomore mass communication major minoring in both music and religion, she is president Lambda Sigma Honors Society.
  • Tawana Johnson of Monroe, N.C. – a senior mass communication major, she is a member of the Association of Campus Entertainment board the English Club.
  • Alexis Locklear of Pembroke - a junior mass communication major, she is a news anchor for Carolina News Today, WNCP-TVs news program that appears on Time Warner Cable Channel 6 in Robeson County. 
  • Elizabeth Ashlyn Locklear of Pembroke - a junior mass communication major, she is vice president of UNCP’s chapter of the Public Relations Society of America and a member of Alpha Chi Honor Society. 
  • Rebecca Malcolm of Sanford, N.C. - a sophomore psychology major, she is an ROTC cadet.
  • Jose McKinney-Lopez of Charlotte - a sophomore mass communication major, he president of UNCP’s Latin American Student Organization
  • Stacy Medina of Barnegat, N.J. - a first year graduate student in the Clinical Mental Health Counseling program, she is a member of Sigma Alpha Pi National Society of Leadership and Success.
  • William Henry Munn III of Fayetteville, N.C. - a second year graduate student in the Master of Public Administration (MPA) program, he is a member of the Graduate Student Organization. 
  • Marcos Sherman of Lakewood, Wash., - a sophomore majoring in biology with a biomedical emphasis, he is a member of the Esther G. Maynor Honors College and Lambda Sigma Honors Society.
  • Brandon Watkins of Yorktown, Va. - a sophomore athletic training major.
