The UNCP Dance Team raised $163 during their fundraising event Oct. 28 on the University Center Lawn from 2:30 p.m.- 5:30 p.m.

“I think it went well,” Dance Team captain Aylin Nunez said. “It was great team bonding time for all of us. We got along great and had a blast.”

Money raised from the event will go toward buying new uniforms for the 16 members of the team. The uniforms the team wants to get cost $11 each, so Nunez believes they raised enough money to buy them for the entire team.

At the fundraiser titled Want to Get Into Some Messy Fun?, participants paid $1 to pie a Dance Team member in the face. Nunez, along with Sara Allen, also on the Dance Team, Brandon Williams and Nunez’s father made two standing boards decorated with black and gold paint for the dancers to put their heads through while being pied. One board read, “Bet you can’t pie a dancer,” and the other “Aim here,” with arrows pointing at the face.

Despite the event being rescheduled from Oct. 26, Nunez believes over 50 people stopped by to pie a dancer and many more came to donate money.

“I think the event was a success,” Nunez said. “I think it was great during times like this for people to come out and donate money.”

The amount of money made at the fundraiser surprised Nunez, who thought the amount would be much lower.

“I didn’t think we were going to break $100 personally,” Nunez said.

Because the pie event was a success, Nunez hopes to have the fundraiser again in the future.

“We could possibly do it next semester,” Nunez said. “We put in a lot of effort to make the boards; I hope we use them again.”
