Pembroke’s State Employees’ Credit Union will soon move from its Village Shopping Center location to a more noticeable spot once construction is complete in April.

The new credit union is being constructed between Dollar General and the First Health Center near the Pembroke welcome sign.

State Employees’ Credit Union Vice President Fallon M. Brewington said this credit union will continue to offer the same benefits as t he current credit union.

“We have accounts for any life stage,” Brewington said.  The credit union has “competitive low rates.  No high fees like banks.  We are here to serve the members, so we don’t get paid commission,” she said.

Despite the credit union’s different account services, Brewington said there is a lack of members that are teachers.

“I’d like for the teachers to be aware that they are eligible to join,” Brewington said.  State employees, including all faculty and staff universities and community colleges, meet the state employee requirement to join the credit union.  Members’ immediate family members can join as well, she said.

Depending on the community’s support of the new building, Brewington said, “We are anticipating more customers and more [job] positions.”

“It’s going to be a better location, brand new facility.  So it’s going to be really nice,” she said.

The new larger building has been in the works since the end of 2004, said Project Superintendent Roy D. Chason of Ellis-Walker Builders, Inc.  Ellis-Walker is the same company that built Lumbee Hall and the Sampson-Livermore Library on campus.             Chason said there are numerous State Employees’ Credit Union buildings being constructed across the state.

There will be a new turning lane constructed for easy access to the new credit union, he said.
