Taylor Manufacturing Co. on 200 N. Main St. in Red Springs was destroyed by fire Jan. 26.

One person was taken to the hospital.

According to "The Red Springs Citizen," owner Jim Taylor was admitted to FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital with "mild smoke inhalation and chest pains."

He lives near the building, heard his dogs barking, and entered with a fire extinguisher.

Explosions from the fire woke residents early Jan. 26.

The fire “Was never contained until the building was destroyed," Red Springs Fire Chief George Hall said.

"It was coming through a vent from the back of the building when it was called in," he said. According to Hall, the fire department was paged by the Red Springs dispatcher at about 4:11 a.m.

Taylor Manufacturing Co. was located nearly across the street from the town's fire department. Two more fire departments were called to combat the fire, Shannon and Prospect, according to Hall.

He said that structural fires require multiple departments working together. Five trucks and nearly 30 firefighters were involved in containing the fire.

"The investigation is ongoing," Hall said. According to Hall, there were numerous fires within the building.

Red Springs Fire Department battled the fire at the structure’s back first.
