Ever since 2002, gamers the world over have flocked to Virginia for a gaming festival that is run by fans, for fans, that is simply known as MAGfest.

MAGfest, or the Music and Gaming Festival, is a four day long video gaming party made up of concerts, tournaments, PC gaming, tabletop gaming, panels, special guests and arcade games. In its ninth year, MAGfest 9 exceeded expectations. MAGfest 9 took place from Jan. 13 through Jan. 16 at the Hilton Mark Center in Alexandria, Va., just outside of Washington D.C.

There were many events and activities. The vendor area was filled with tables of sellers who sell just about anything video game or anime related that you could think of.

It's a great place to congregate for those into retro gaming where they can browse through the endless bins of classic gaming bliss. Whether it is that Sega Saturn import that you've been tracking down, or a classic game from your childhood, the vendor area most likely has it.

MAGfest 9 passed the 3,000 mark in attendance this year, so it should be no surprise that they have a game room large enough to handle so many gamers. At over 10,000 square feet, the game room is filled with consoles from every era of gaming, ranging from the Atari 2600 to the Nintendo Wii.

If rhythm games are your thing, MAGfest has you covered. Rock Band, Dance Central, Guitar Freaks, In The Groove, DDR, Pump It Up, Taiko Drum Master and many more make an appearance. Even underrated classics like Rez are available to play.

If there's one thing to experience at MAGfest, it's one of their many live concerts. The concerts at MAGfest focus mainly on video game related music, whether it is covers, homage or original compositions with a lot of influence from video game music.

With bands such as The Protomen, Metroid Metal, to chiptune artists and DJs like George and Jonathan and DJ Cutman, gamers are guaranteed to find a band that they like at MAGfest.

MAGfest tries to make every year better than the previous year, and MAGfest 9 was no exception.

You'll be hard pressed to find a better party or a better gaming event than MAGfest anywhere.

It's truly a one-of-akind experience that should not be missed by casual and hardcore gamers alike.
