Arrests, thefts top crime

As the semester progresses, campus police continue to target underage drinking, with an arrest of eight students in Village Apartments Sept. 22.
Two students were arrested in Pine for possession of a controlled substance on Sept. 18. There was an additional arrest for a controlled substance on Sept. 23 at a vehicle stop.
One student was charged with disruptive and disorderly conduct at Bert’s on Sept. 21.
There were also three charges for assault and harassment on the same day in West Hall.
On Sept. 24, there was one arrest of an individual who was trespassing.
Dr. Diane Jones, vice chancellor for Students Affairs, warns students to be wary of suspicious people on campus, encouraging students to call campus police if they feel unsafe.
A student was charged at the campus level for using abusive and vulgar language in Wellons on Sept. 26.
A fight in the auxiliary gym Sept. 29 ended in three arrests.
On Sept. 19, one person was arrested for possession of stolen goods from a construction site.
Two arrests were made for felony larceny at Moore Hall on Sept. 21 and 22.
One was charged with damage to property on Sept. 24 in Village.
There was also one charge of larceny of clothes in Village on Sept. 27.
A refrigerator was stolen out of Pine Hall during Fall Break.
“I came in to my room after break, and my refrigerator was gone.
Nothing else was missing, I was just upset that they took my mother’s yummy pot roast,” senior history major Benjamin Secrist said.
There has been an increase in thefts in the Pine dorm, and there are signs warning students to keep their doors locked.
