Students and faculty who dine at Simply to Go in the Oxendine Science Building will only be able to enjoy it for a little while longer.
The Sodexo-operated cafe has been in Oxendine for approximately six years. It will remain open until Spring Break and will then be closed when students return.
"It's just not paying for itself," Retail Manager for Sodexo Jane Kay said.
There is no plan to replace Simply to Go with another food vendor, although there are other food options on campus.
"We already have two new venues that we added, Papa John's and Einstein's, and, of course, we have Starbucks," Kay said. "The Simply to Go product [is] offered in Bert's."
However, that may be of little comfort to those who spend their time on the south side of campus and use Simply to Go for a quick snack or a place to hang out between classes.
"I hate it," senior biology major Becky Jackson said. "I emailed them saying I didn't want it to close."
Both Jackson and fellow biology major, senior Camille Michel, have all of their classes in Oxendine and spend roughly an hour a day in Simply to Go.
Simply to Go offers a variety of pre-packaged sandwiches, wraps, salads, bagels and muffins.
They also offer quick snacks like chips, Pop-Tarts and pretzels. Coffee and cold drinks are also for sale.
Students, faculty and staff who work or attend class on the south side of campus enjoyed the convenience of Simply to Go.
After Spring Break, they'll have to walk a little farther to satisfy their appetite.
