Air Force ROTC cadet Allyson Burrill dies after illness

UNCP student Allyson Burrill, 21 passed away on June 2 after a short illness. Burrill was a cadet in the Air Force ROTC and had dreams of flying for the Air Force.
UNCP student Allyson Burrill, 21, died June 2 after a short illness. The Hinesville, Ga., native was a cadet in the Air Force ROTC and had a lifelong dream of flying for the Air Force.

She was awarded Cadet of the Year and her leadership skills attracted the attention of the Air Force who selected her for pilot training after she graduated.

Burrill also was one of the student speakers at Dr. Rohald Meneses' memorial service on Feb. 27. She created a tribute video that brought tears, and some laughter, to the audience.

Burrill is preceded in death by her twin sister Danielle Burrill.

Burrill's funeral was held June 6 at the Gum Branch Baptist Church in Hinesville and she was buried at Gum Branch Cemetery.
