Lay's potato chips held a "Do Us A Flavor" contest this spring for America to vote for its favorite flavor of chips.

Three contestants were in the running. Each created a flavored chip which then was entered in a contest to decide which to keep.

The three flavors: Chicken & Waffles, Cheesy Garlic Bread, and Sriracha.
  • Christina Abu-Jodom of Phoenix, Arizona submitted Chicken & Waffles.
  • Tyler Raineri Lake Zurich, Illinois submitted Sriracha.
  • Karen Weber-Mendham Land O'Lakes, Wisconsin submitted Cheesy Garlic Bread
The first place prize was to be either a million dollars or a portion of the net sales from their product, whichever is higher. The two runners up each will receive $50,000.

Here's what I think

After countless hours of searching grocery stores for all three flavors, I walked out with only two bags of chips: Chicken & Waffles, and Sriracha. I was surprised that I wasn't able to find the Cheesy Garlic Bread flavor.

It felt like forever and a century when I finally stumbled upon the Cheesy Garlic Bread chips at Piggly Wiggly.

How did they taste?

The Chicken & Waffles is the perfect chip for someone who has a sweet tooth and an appetite for a salty snack that requires consuming a beverage to quench your thirst.

Unlike the Chicken & Waffles, the Sriracha chips did not taste anything like the real deal and it wasn't that hot to me. For those who are accustomed to dousing copious amounts of Sriracha on foods such as pizza, chicken, ramen noodles, soups, etc., these chips may be the perfect culinary concoction for a food enthusiast with a tongue for spicy hot flavors. Sriracha is a Thai sauce made when sun ripened chilies and garlic are ground into a smooth paste.

As for the Cheesy Garlic Bread Lay's, it looks good from the picture on the bag and it is good. The cheese does the chips justice, but as far as the garlic you can barely taste it in the chip itself.

And, in the end, guess what – the Cheesy Garlic Bread chips won the contest.

If you haven't tried any of these flavors I suggest you go ahead and do so if you still can find them in stores. You will be highly impressed with what you taste.
