CBS Sports Network will air the 2013 season opener at Grace P. Johnson Stadium, which will be the first time in school history any sports team has been on national TV. This is WSSU's third time on the national stage.
Winston-Salem was the runner-up in the NCAA Division II National Championship game in 2012 and they defeated the Braves during the regular season.
Athletic Director Dick Christy and head football coach Pete Shinnick, applauded the televised game.
"We are very excited that the NCAA chose to kick-off the Division II college football season here at UNC Pembroke, Christy said. "It is a testament to the program that coach Shinnick has built here, the support of our local community and the strength of our budding regional rivalry with Winston-Salem State."
"What a great opportunity for UNCP and Braves football," Shinnick said. "Everyone associated with our program is looking forward to this game.
'Thanks to the CBS Sports Network, we have an opportunity to display our university and football program on national television," Shinnick said. "It is going to be a great night for UNCP. Go Braves!"
The game is a rare Thursday night matchup and will kickoff at 8 p.m. to accommodate TV scheduling.
This broadcast is also the first of six Division II games that will be shown on CBS Sports Network and is the only non-conference game that will be shown.
CBS Sports Network may be viewed on Pembroke area Time Warner Cable channel 537 and on DirecTV channel 613.
