Cobb is All-Peach Belt squad for second time
The Richlands native was 2004 all-Carolinas Virginia Conference selection at Mount Olive before transferring to UNCP following the conclusion of her sophomore year.
UNCP forward Melanie Cobb was among 23 players named to the Peach Belt women’s soccer all-conference team by league headquarters in Augusta, Ga.
With the award, Cobb takes home her third-straight career all-conference honor and second consecutive Peach Belt laurels.
“Without a doubt, Melanie is one of the best players in the Peach Belt Conference,” said UNCP coach Lars Andersson.
“She played such an integral part to the success of our program over the past two years and will be sorely missed next season.”
Having scored at least one point (goal or assist) in 11 different games this season, she turned in her second career hat trick against Coker on Aug. 29 and, later, scored a goal in four consecutive games from Sept. 16 (Georgia College) to Sept. 27 (Georgia Southwestern).
A regular in the starting lineup, Cobb played and started all 19 games for the Braves this season and led the team in every offensive statistic — goals (12), assists (6), shots (90) and game-winning goals (4).
Her game-winning scores came against Lenoir-Rhyne, Coker, Mount Olive and Georgia Southwestern.
Cobb finished the regular season ranked second in the league in points (30) and goals scored, while also ranking in a tie for third with her assist total.
Her shot total was second behind Armstrong Atlantic forward and PBC Player and Freshman of the Year Kristin Burton.
