Lady Braves golf brings home two championships

By Nick Phillips
Sports Editor

UNCP senior Katja Dammann finished five strokes ahead of her nearest competition and the Lady Braves all finished in the top-15 places to grab both an individual and a team championship at the Newberry Invitational on Feb. 14-15.

Dammann finished the tournament with a two-over par final round to pull ahead of Barbara Castro of Newberry.

The win is Dammann's second career individual win, with her previous victory coming in September 2009 at the Battle at the Bayonet.

UNCP sophomore Meghan Moore finished in sixth place after shooting rounds of 79 and 82, respectively.

Freshman Dana Watkins recovered from a shaky round one to collect a tie for eighth place finish with her two-round total of 163.

Lady Brave Shauna Walor tallied a 164 on her card for her two rounds to put the sophomore in a tie for 10th place, while freshman Kelly Sumner's total score of 166 landed her a 15th place finish.
