Men's golf team places eighth in highly competitive tournament

Teeing off against 13 of the top 30 ranked teams in the nation, the UNCP men's golf team held its own at the Bobcat Invitational on March 21 and 22, finishing the event in a tie for eighth place.

The Braves finished with a team score of 870 to tie No. 7 North Alabama on the final leaderboard.

In addition to having 13 of the 17 competing teams ranked in the top 30 in the country, the tournament also featured five teams ranked in the top 10, with all rankings based on's head-to-head computer rankings.

Fifth-ranked Lynn University took home first place honors, ahead of No. 8 Barry University and No. 4 West Florida, who tied for second overall.

The Braves were led by junior Jordan Walor, who finished with a three-round total 215 after rounds of 71, 69 and 75 to tie for 13th overall in the 90-man field.

UNCP junior Scott Lambert tied for 20th overall with Braves freshman Michael Mullmann, with Lambert shooting rounds of 72, 72 and 73 and Mullmann carding a 72, 71 and 74 for both to finish with 217 scores.

Junior Carson Lanier shot a final round 72 to jump up to finish tied for 44th, previously shooting rounds of 77 and 73 before his final 18 holes.

Braves junior Jonathan McCurry finished off the UNCP scoring, shooting rounds of 77, 76 and 74 to card a 227 total and finish tied for 63rd overall.

The Braves next compete in the Lander Bearcat Golf Classic on March 28 and 29 before hosting the Carolina Sands Intercollegiate on April 2 and 3.

UNCP tees off in the Peach Belt Conference Championships on April 11 and 12.
